Pride and Prejudice(1995)
Aug. 3rd, 2009 12:24 amToday I saw the BBC production of Pride and Prejudice(1995), and truthfully speaking, I was completely bowled over. With just six episodes, they've managed to grasp the essence of the book quite magnificently. Jennifer Ehle resembles a lot to the Elizabeth Bennet I had pictured in my mind while reading the actual novel. And there cannot be a better Mr. Darcy than Colin Firth. Its not that I didn't like the 2005 remake Hollywood version, I liked it, but I loved the 1995 version, which was more truer to the novel and the characters more believable. But Darcy coming out of the lake with his white shirt did surprise me a little. I always thought in the Hollywood version, Keira Knightley was much more prettier and skinnier than the real Elizabeth was supposed to be, and Ehle fit the role perfectly.
